Awkward Encounters Abroad

"And then I realized, adventure was the best way to learn."

Welcome to my blog!

Greetings and salutations. My name is Kelly, and I’m awkward. I love going on adventures and ignoring “do not enter” signs. Chocolate covered espresso beans give me life, and I’m 100% convinced the world would cease to exist without french fries (slight over exaggeration).

Current obsessions: Toblerones and Sense8.

I recently graduated from university and decided to go ahead and not get one of those fancy, paid 9-5 jobs people tend to get. Instead, I’m headed to South Korea, where I will be teaching English for one year.

“But Kelly!!! You just finished college! You ‘worked’ so hard for that degree! What are you thinking?!”

Well, Internet stranger and befuddled acquaintance, the answer to this question is quite simple. I am not really thinking too much about it. This is something I really want to do, so I’m doing it. Ah, adulthood. The freedom to make your own choices and watch them blow up in front of you.

Kelly; A History.

I have been very fortunate to have the ability to attempt to make my own decisions and follow my own passions throughout my entire life (for a long time that was just the Jonas Brothers and Sims, but you know, things change). I moved myself from Indiana to Rhode Island for college, not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I then studied abroad in Paris for a semester, where I managed to stumble my way through 7 countries (13 cities) and a French course at the Sorbonne. On top of that, I have travelled around the USA with my family as well as a few trips to Shanghai and Dubai. So basically what I’m saying is… I love to travel and adventure runs in my blood (heck ya, cool parents).

So here I am now. Starting this blog, waiting to start my next adventure in South Korea. I’m keeping this blog not only for my family and friends, but as a way to share my experience with anyone interested in learning about what else is out there. Please follow along and feel free to share, comment, or get in touch!

Let the second hand embarrassment begin.

*By the way, that is not me in the picture above. I haven't found a photo I like of myself so the template girl is just going to stay there and lure people in. Sorry to disappoint.

Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to.

Where am I now?
